About Freestone Bamboo Rods, bamboo rodmaking, and bamboo flyfishing in South Africa

January 27, 2010

Hi,

I am a South African bamboo rodmaker ( see http://www.freestonerods.co.za/), a flyfisherman and an architect( see http://www.sdks-architects.co.za/.

Rod with Hardy Marquis #2/3 reel

I set up this blog wanting to share the joy of flyfishing with bamboo rods, my interest in photography (particularly photographing the landscapes I experience whilst fishing or getting to and from fishing), to show recent rods and to discuss aspects of making bamboo rods that may be of interest to fellow rodmakers.  Currently there are only a handful of bamboo rodmakers in South Africa that I know of. Judging by the number of inquiries I get about how to go about the process of making a rod this looks like it may change, which is great news for the bamboo ‘revolution’. It is great to see more people discovering the joys of bamboo rods. I know I personally really enjoy making a rod  for someone, customised to their preferred fishing and then hearing their delight in using it.

Having set up the blog,  I will of course now have to add posts to it 🙂 Let’s see where it goes. Please subscribe or have a look from time to time.

Tight tippets

Steve

A very informative site Steve – and thanks for the willingness to share the technical detail.

Going to place an order soon for a little ”wisp” for the cape streams…..
